Maple Leafs all but done after ugly shutout loss to Capitals

It may be all over but the gnashing of teeth as far as the Toronto Maple Leafs and their long-suffering fans are concerned. The Leafs lost another one on Sunday, March 12, 2-0 in Washington to the Capitals, and are now 8 points out of eighth place.

Op-Ed: Maple Leafs hit bottom, time for Ron Wilson to hit the pavement

The Toronto Maple Leaf players clearly like GM Brian Burke, to a man they were grateful he had faith in them after leaving the team intact during the yearly sideshow known as the NHL trade deadline. But, it would seem, they don't like coach Ron Wilson.

Playoffs slipping away: Quotes from Maple Leafs tell the story

They are in a slump, no doubt, and given that the first three-quarters of this season suggested to fans that the long playoff drought might be over, their recent run of poor play is all the more disappointing. For fans, yes, and the Leafs themselves.

NHL: Sharks take bite out of struggling Leafs Special

Toronto - With the trade deadline just days away, Thursday’s performance by the Toronto Maple Leafs did little to quell the rumours surrounding the team lately. If anything the trade chatter and speculation, whether fact or fiction, will probably only intensify.

Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke trashes his own goalies on TSN

Whether Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke was trying to light a fire under his goalies, or whether he just had his mouth run away from him in frustration can't be known, but the walking quote that Burke is took a shot at his own goalies on Feb. 22.

Op-Ed: Do the Toronto Maple Leafs have the best NHL goalie tandem?

It wouldn't have been possible to say this at the top of the 2011-12 season, not without being fitted for a straight jacket, but it's possible to say it now: the Toronto Maple Leafs may have the best goaltending duo in the NHL.

Jonas gustavsson Headlines

The Toronto Maple Leafs will turn to backup netminder Jonas Gustavsson instead of starter James Reimer as they welcome the Winnipeg Jets to the Air Canada Centre on Thursday.

Jonas Gustavsson can count on getting another start for the Toronto Maple Leafs. The man known as The Monster stopped all 24 shots he faced Thursday for his second career NHL shutout as the Maple Leafs beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-0.

Matthew Lombardi scored twice and Jonas Gustavsson made 25 saves as the Toronto Maple Leafs blanked the New York Islanders 3-0 on Monday in the first game of a home-and-home series.

Toronto goalie Jonas Gustavsson misplayed a shot by New Jersey defenceman Mark Fayne in overtime that was going wide but instead wound up in the Leafs' net as the Devils escaped with a 4-3 victory.

Jimmy Howard's reliable play has made it easy for the Detroit Red Wings to keep starting him. Jonas Gustavsson is hoping to develop into that kind of goaltender for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
