Interim Liberal Party leader Bob Rae says the gaps in education, health care and housing between First Nations communities and other Canadians are an embarrassment.

Ontario Health Minister Deb Matthews says proposed measures to help seniors stay in their homes include more house calls by doctors, more access to home care for seniors in need, and special co-ordinators to ensure seniors receive the right care.

Most First Nations and Métis children living off reserve reported excellent or very good health but factors like poor housing conditions and access to medical care seem to make a difference, a report suggests.
