A Japanese crew has captured the giant squid in its natural habitat in the Pacific Ocean for the first time. The mission was organized by the Japan National Science Museum in collaboration with the Japanese broadcaster NHK and the US Discovery Channel.

A trio of Florida fishermen, out for a day of fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, made a once-in-a-lifetime discovery when they spotted a giant squid floating in the water 12-miles off Jensen Beach in Martin County.
The giant squid has returned to California waters -- and there are so many that fishermen are filling their daily quotas within a few hours of setting out to fish.
A rare giant squid was captured in the trawling nets of a research vessel at the end of July off the coast of Louisiana, scientists are reporting. The 19.5-foot long monster weighed in at 103 pounds.
