Canadian government gets failing grade in salmon farming audit

Ottawa - A new audit from Canada's federal environment commissioner found that Fisheries and Oceans Canada has not been managing the nation's fish farms very well, and has failed to enforce rules and manage the risk of infectious diseases.

NOAA halts large whale rescues after death of Canadian rescuer

Joe Howlett, a Campobello Island, New Brunswick man, lost his life Monday night while performing a whale rescue in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. In response to Mr. Howlett's death, NOAA is suspending all large whale rescues nationally until further notice.

Vancouver Aquarium uses drone to track killer whales in the wild

Vancouver - Researchers from the Vancouver Aquarium, in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, used a drone to observe killer whales (Orcas). It is the first time an unmanned aerial vehicle tracked wild marine mammals.
