New York - New York's ants could play an important part in the city's garbage disposal process according to new research from NC State University.

Lavras - Researchers have discovered little-known cave insects in Brazil with odd sexual habits. The troglodyte species has sex-reversed genitalia, the female sporting an elaborate spiked penis that penetrates an opening like a vagina in her male consort.

Toronto - Researcher Jason Gibbs collected a bee from a garden while walking up Brunswick Avenue to the Spadina subway station on his way to York University in the fall of 2006; it turned out to be a new species.
