Yangon - Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird announced that the Canadian government will open an embassy in Myanmar. This comes months after the Southeast Asian country held historic elections, which led to Canada lifting economic sanctions.

Damascus - Belgium has decided to close its embassy in Damascus, and has announced it will also be reducing its diplomatic relations with Syria, Israel's Haaretz newspaper reports.

London - Iranian diplomats have until 2 p.m. (GMT) to leave the UK after being ordered out of the country by the Foreign Secretary on Wednesday.
