Spain's economic woes deepened alarmingly Friday as the government revealed that unemployment rising to near 25 per cent, a day after a credit ratings agency downgraded the country's debt rating and warned it faced an uphill battle to get a grip on its finances.


Ratings agency Fitch downgraded the credit ratings of five eurozone nations Friday, including economic heavyweights Italy and Spain.

Getting hold of finance is one of the biggest challenges faced by small and medium sized businesses in the current economic climate, with credit often hard to obtain even in wealthy countries.
