Colorectal screenings — Researcher calls for changes

In an editorial this week in the journal Gastroenterology, University of Pennsylvania physicians argue that the current methodology of screening older people with a history of familial colorectal cancer every five years is not justified.

With their ability to detect scents far above what humans can, dogs have been used to sniff out bombs, drugs and even survivors in calamities. Now, Japanese scientists are adding cancer to that list.

Dr. Oz's colon cancer scare

Dr. Mehmet Oz underwent a routine colonoscopy, a cancer screening test as part of his show. That test found a polyp that in time could have become cancerous. The show will be aired during the first week of this season.
