A second NASA telescope decides to 'have a little vacation'

Less than a week after the Hubble Space Telescope went offline, the Chandra X-ray Observatory did the same thing, according to NASA on Friday. The space agency notes there appears to be a gyroscope problem with Chandra.

NASA’s Chandra spots dozens of black holes in neighboring galaxy

New research conducted using NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory confirms what scientists have long suspected—that the unusual amount of X-ray sources emanating from the center of the Andromeda galaxy are the signatures of dozens of black holes.

NASA’s Chandra spots galactic collision

Two spiral galaxies, tethered by the gravitational pull of supermassive black holes at their centers, have collided in space and kicked up a massive cloud of hot dense gas.

NASA discovers Milky Way's youngest black hole

Scientists with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory have discovered what is believed to be the newest black hole to have formed in the Milky Way galaxy.

Vela pulsar 'looks like God smoking a joint'

A video released by NASA have observers trying to describe a Vela pulsar, with some comparing it to "Phantom of the Opera", while others see a more "heavenly" image.

NASA publishes image of oldest recorded supernova RCW 86

Washington - NASA revealed an image of the oldest recorded supernova on record. The image, which combines data from four telescopes, shows RCW 86, which is approximately 8,000 light-years away and is 85 light-years in diameter.

Star evaporating five million tons of planet's matter per second

Huntsville - Data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and the European Southern Observatory's Very Large Telescope shows that a nearby star is blasting a neighboring planet with X-rays 100,000 times more intense than the Earth receives from our sun.
