Two kinds of birds and two active areas in the picture. There are some nice visual things going on here. The planks lead to a vanishing point, giving the image increased depth. And there is a nice visual swoop of points of interest that, for me, leads from the pigeon in the forefront up and over to the seagull flapping its wings. The fact the two gulls above the pigeon are both looking right helps strengthen this line of interest.
