Bill c-311 Headlines

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney is bending to opposition pressure and amending his controversial refugee omnibus bill, C-31.

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews is denying reports that the Harper government intends to quietly shelve its controversial online surveillance bill, C-30.

Much of the commentary about bill C-30 has focused on the power it gives police to demand identifying information about internet users without a warrant. Then there's Section 34, which seems to go a lot further.

There's no way to know yet how much bill C-30, known to some as the online snooping bill, will cost taxpayers or boost monthly internet and phone fees. But service providers see the costs as significant, and someone will have to pay.

Ontario Correctional Services Minister Madeleine Meilleur says the federal omnibus crime bill will cost the province's taxpayers more than $1 billion in increased costs.
