Puffins are starving to death because of climate change

Back in mid-October, a few dead tufted puffins began washing up along the shore of St. Paul island, an isolated and windswept stretch of land in the Philpot Islands in the North Pacific. Now, hundreds of dead puffins have been found.

Jumbo squids attack Greenpeace submersible

A two-man Greenpeace team in a small Dual Deep Worker submersible in the Bering Sea had the surprise of their lives when their submersible was attacked by two Humbolt squid. They were able to video-tape the whole event.

Five more gray whales wash ashore in Chukotka, Russia

Gray whales in the North Pacific belong to two distinct populations, with the Western gray whale population seen mainly along the coasts of China, Korea, Japan and Russia. They have been hunted to the point of near extinction, and less than 100 remain.

Beluga whales trapped in ice floes of Bering Sea

More than 100 Beluga whales are trapped between ice floes in the Chukotka region of Russia, with government officials seeking an icebreaker, as the whales are at risk of death from exhaustion, lack of food, and predators.

Bering Sea: 180,000 Sq Miles Made Off Limits to Bottom Trawling

Around 180,000 square miles of the Bering Sea will be off-limits to one of the most indiscriminate, destructive forms of commercial fishing: bottom trawling.
