British troops are leaving Basra today. A ceremony has been held this morning which will mark the end of a six year stint there by the British army. As part of the ceremony the names of all of the British troops who lost their lives were read out.

For all the hype, criticism and questioning of al-Maliki deciding to crack down on Sadr's Mahdi Army and militias in Basra, Iraq, the residents are cheering the move and stating it was a good thing to have happened and that they feel more secure.
