Spring is the breeding season for many creatures in southern Ontario and this includes various species of frogs. On Tuesday March 5, 2010 I ventured into a wetland on the southwestern outskirts of Guelph to look and listen for frogs.

During the conflict over protection of the Hanlon Creek Wetland Complex during 2009, the Ontario Minister of Natural Resources ordered the city of Guelph to monitor for Jefferson salamanders during the spring of 2010 before the construction season began.

Laird Road in southwestern Guelph bisects a Provincially Significant Wetland that is home to a wide diversity of amphibian species including frogs, toads and salamanders. In the fall of 2009, the city temporarily closed the road during the migration.

Hyperolius Nimbae- has been found after 43 years. Re-discovered by Dr.N’goran Germaine Kouame, in a swampy field in Danipleu, an Ivorian village near the Liberia border. The species is approximately 33 mm long.
