"Kettling" tactics used by the Metropolitan Police to contain crowds in 2001 were lawful, the European Court of Human Rights has ruled.

A case of road rage on Highway 401 near Cobourg, Ont., culminated in a high-risk police tactical unit takedown at Sandbanks Provincial Park and several charges.

The RCMP's watchdog says an investigation into the conduct of Mounties during the G8 and G20 summits in Ontario in 2010 has found they "on balance" did "a pretty good job" of policing, but offers new insight into the controversial police tactic of "kettling."

Months after receiving complaints that the New York Police Department is using surveillance tactics on entire American Muslim neighbourhoods, the U.S. Justice Department is just beginning a review to decide whether to investigate civil rights violations.

When Anne Sessions, 85, of Lane County, Ore., fell behind in her credit card payments, she said an aggressive debt collector harrassed her to the point of calling the police with a phony claim she threated to commit suicide, costing her $1,055 in medical bills. Now she is suing for $250,000 over the incident which led to an involuntary hospital visit. Sessions fell behind on her credit card payments in 2010 after making regular payments for years due to unanticipated financial setbacks, potentially facing foreclosure. As she survived on a fixed income from social security and a "very modest" pension, she was strapped.
