The family of murdered mayoress Mrs Tienie Botha of the old Voortrekker town Louis Trichardt in South Africa were 'grateful that she had not been raped' during her horrendous murder. 78-year-old Mrs Botha was found dead and naked in her home last month.

A white Afrikaner mineworker was dragged from his bed by two black men, tied to the car in his garage, and torched. Neighbours found Willie Klopper, 51, burning brightly on the road: he got lose from his bonds and fled, screaming 'come and help me'.

Two more South African farm dwellers were murdered - bringing the death rate for white commercial farm dwellers to 3,037 since apartheid rule ended in 1994. Killed at his smallholding were lawyer Doppie de Villiers; and livestock farmer David Greig.

Two political parties in South Africa yesterday expressed deep concern over the growing hate-speech and the growing incidents of racism-related violence with which 'whites' -- mostly Afrikaans-speakers -- are attacked in violence-driven incidents.
