As part of the 90th anniversary celebrations for the Le Mans 24 Hours race in France, a section of the original track, incorporating a hazardous hairpin bend, over which the inaugural Le Mans race took place in 1923, is to be recreated.

French car manufacturer Renault announced on Friday that a Renault Alpine would compete at the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours to be held on June 22 and 23, the first time a Renault Alpine has taken part in the world famous endurance race for 35 years.

It was announced yesterday that Formula 1 driver Bruno Senna, who had previously raced for Williams, Renault and HRT in Grand Prix, would compete in the World Endurance Championship under the Aston Martin Racing banner.

In Paris yesterday, the organisers of the Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) released the list of entries for the 90th anniversary 2013 event and unveiled a new dedicated website for Le Mans 24 Hour race fans.

Europe may be in the grip of austerity, but not, it seems, in the arena of endurance racing. Yesterday the organisers announced that entries for the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours were up on the previous year.

Grey’s Anatomy star and race enthusiast Patrick Dempsey hopes to compete in the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours race. His team Dempsey Racing have ended their association with Mazda but Dempsey has teamed up with Italian soccer ace Alessandro Del Piero.

UK luxury car maker Bentley last week dropped the strongest hint yet that its long awaited return to the historic Le Mans 24 hours endurance race was in sight as it revealed its Continental GT3 concept car prior to the opening of the Paris Motor Show.

A Bentley Speed 8 Le Mans Prototype racing car is coming up for auction in Monterey, California in mid-August. This rare example is expected to fetch between $1.9 million and $2.5 million.

British luxury car maker Bentley recently recruited Graham Humphrys, who designed the 1999 Le Mans 24 Hour-winning BMW. It’s seen as a major step for Bentley making a possible return to the world’s greatest endurance race, the Le Mans 24 hours.
