article imageSmartWatches are so yesterday — Introducing the SmartRing

By J.N. Paquet     Sep 20, 2014 in Technology
As Samsung, Apple and Co. are all launching their own takes on the SmartWatches, MOTA, a US company based in the Silicon Valley with its award-winning design team, has designed the next step in the high-tech consumer electronics: the SmartRing!
According to MOTA, the SmartRing will keep its user connected with what matters most to them, such as calls, texts and social media. In order to make the SmartRing a global phenomenon, the company has launched a fundraising campaign on crowd-funding platform IndieGogo, at the beginning of September. With 14 days left to go, Mota has already raised over 60% of its $100,000 goal, necessary to make the campaign a success.
How Does It Work?
To use the SmartRing, the user simply scrolls through text in order to check text messages, emails, phone calls and calendar notifications. The ring also enables the user to be notified only with what they have pre-selected, “giving them back the most precious thing of all: time,” MOTA claims.
The user may for example assign specific alerts to their favourite contacts and know who is trying to reach them, at any time, without even looking at nor having to take out their phone that is buried in a bag or a pocket.
In order to get everything to work very smoothly, the ring comes with a companion app for Android and iOS devices that controls the notifications to be displayed, through low energy Bluetooth 4.0 communications.
Pre-selected Notifications And Apps.
MOTA says that “initially, the SmartRing will ship with support Android and IOS enabled devices (e.g iPhone) with calls, text messages, email, and calendar notification.”
The company is also working on popular social networking notifications such as Facebook® and Twitter® and wishes to extend other apps.
Looking Good.
MOTA announced that the SmartRing, which is shock and water resistant with a bright screen that is even readable outdoors, will initially come in midnight black and pearl white, have a sleek simple look “whether you’re on Madison Avenue or Venice Beach,” and, although it is a feather-light ring, it “has been engineered to withstand day-to-day wears and tears.”
Wireless Charging.
According to MOTA, “charging the SmartRing is as easy as taking it off and putting it down.” Because the ring is wire-free, it charges via its charging station. The user simply places the ring on top of the inductive wireless charging station and the ring does the job.
Changing Our Way Of Life Forever?
MOTA claims that the SmartRing has been designed to go with the user wherever they go and that it will become part of their daily life.
They finally guaranty that soon, WE won’t be able to live without the SmartRing. Could they actually be right?
