Next-gen Motorola Moto 360 smartwatch spotted on employee wrists

The Moto 360 2 is known to have been in development for some time but Motorola has yet to reveal the new smartwatch. The principal difference in design from the original Moto 360 is the addition of strap lugs, making the wearable look more like a conventional watch.
As TrustedReviews reports, testing of the new device now seems to be in full swing. What appears to be the Moto 360 2 has been sighted on the wrists of Motorola employees in its North American hometown of Chicago no less than three times this week.
It seems as though Motorola is sacrificing the privacy afforded by keeping the watch away from the public gaze in order to ensure that all of the features, such as exercise and fitness tracking, work as planned. The best way to test is of course to use it as a purchaser would.
This has led to some eagle-eyed Android fans having a few happy days recently. DroidLife has clear images of the watch on the wrists of people who are reportedly Motorola employees, showing that the company could be nearing completion of development and making launch imminent, potentially at the IFA technology fair next month.
Two versions of the watch have been seen on the streets of Chicago. An all-black model with black leather bands and a rose gold one with a Cognac band have both seen outside, although many more configurations will be available for customers to buy.
This isn’t the first time that the Moto 360 2 has been exposed. The first sighting of the device came back in March via unusual courtesy of Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing – Motorola’s parent company. Yuanqing uploaded an image of a briefcase full of Moto 360 smartwatches to Weibo, using it to claim that the Moto 360 is the best designed smartwatch available.
Unfortunately, Yuanqing himself seemed not to have been so smart. The post was quickly deleted and with good reason: the Moto 360s in the briefcase were very different to the Moto 360s on sale. All of them featured strap lugs leading many to conclude that the Lenovo CEO had accidentally revealed the new smartwatch.
The Moto 360 2 is now overdue so Android Wear fans are understandably eager to get it on their wrists. The watch is likely to improve on many of the shortcomings of its predecessor, most noticeably by looking a good deal more like a watch.
