article imageMicrosoft executives change overall strategy for the company

The spread of Microsoft devices and services is going to be put on the back burner to focus on the "core" of the company, according to CEO Satya Nadella. As he has been saying for months he wants a "mobile first" and "cloud first" approach.
You can read the letter from Nadella right here. Much of the language in the article was rather vague but he did speak about a few services he wanted to improve in particular. According to him these include:
painting, writing poetry and expressing ideas... running a Formula 1 racing team or keeping an entire city running.... building a game with a spark of your imagination and remixing it with the world.... helping build a vaccine for HIV, and giving a voice to the voiceless.
So basically anything that gets Microsoft away from the days and reputation from the blue screen of death.
Nadella has constantly trumpeted the mobile/cloud first ideology in every major promotion he appeared in. There was at least a reference to it somewhere. This may be more "core" to the company than anything else that he has mentioned. As such they will be dropping their "devices and services" tagline to focus on this new idea and to look into other options.
The CEO even took this to the extreme when he dropped a media battle with Salesforce and allowed their mobile apps to appear on Microsoft devices. It is not all talk and this comes in addition to a focus on apps for major programs such as Microsoft Dynamics. The company is going full steam ahead with this focus.
This reorganization comes at a time when executives are trying to downplay recent layoffs. Many big names in business such as Forbes are questioning what this means for the company.
