Leak reveals LG’s leather-clad G4 smartphone in all its colours

The G4 will be LG’s flagship Android smartphone for 2015-2016. Much of its details and specifications have already been confirmed by the company but no full pictures have been seen until now.
The leaked images were found on an LG micro site dedicated to the handset. 9to5Google reports that links to the page were embedded within the source code of the official teaser page that is currently openly available on the company’s website. The micro site has now been taken down and is not accessible.

The company didn’t pull it quick enough though. All of the images from the site were quickly saved by 9to5Google and Evan Blass, formerly known as the renowned phone leaker @evleaks.

What the photos reveal is a stylish, modern-looking handset available with a leather back. The website text describes how the “chic colored” versions of the genuine leather back have a “textural hammered-array pattern” with an “exquisite threaded stitch” and will be available in five colours.

The device is also available in metallic gray, ceramic white or shiny gold hard covers. Design-wise, the phone looks similar to last-year’s G3 and is instantly recognisable as an LG but it has been refined in some ways. The front looks cleaner the straight sides curve at the corners. The bottom of the device forms a slight slope to rest in your palm.

The G4 will have a 5.5″ 2560×1440 display that has previously been detailed by the company. An IPS panel, it is supposed to have exceptional brightness and contrast levels not seen on any previous smartphone.
Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM, the phone will be a strong contender in the Android flagship market. It has a large 3,000 mAh removable battery and will launch on April 28th.
One detail on the leaked micro site has alarmed some online. The OS is listed as being Android 4.4.2 KitKat – a fast ageing version of the operating system.
This is almost certainly an erroneous specification that has not yet been updated while the site was under construction and it seems unlikely that LG would dare to launch a flagship device without Android 5.0 Lollipop. Doing so would spell instant failure in the face of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and HTC’s One M9 but we will have to wait for confirmation from the company.
