It’s no secret that smartphones have been getting larger over the years, and for one Japanese manufacturer, this is a problem for people with tiny hands. The solution? A fake thumb.
Thanko has essentially created a finger-extender that gives users an extra 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) of reach and is designed to resemble an actual human thumb. Though judging from pictures of it, it’s not exactly subtle.
Mashable reports that this unusual device retails for 1,480 yen (USD $14).
The artificial thumb appears to be a response to the growing trend of manufacturers releasing “phablets,” devices that are larger than phones but smaller than tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which could see a release earlier than expected thanks to the high-profile and record-breaking iPhone 6 launch.
This is far from the only eyebrow-raising smartphone accessory on the market. Take, for example, the iPhone case shaped like a human hand, or even weirder, a pair of underpants for your phone.
It remains to be seen if Thanko or other manufacturers will develop a solution to the iPhone 6 Plus bending problem.
