Although it might seem totally unrelated, the first clue Apple has got something going on was actually on the app Secret where users can anonymously share, well, secrets. One user
claimed that Apple is working on smart EarPods that can monitor heart rate and blood pressure. It will also be equipped with iBeacon so users can find their EarPods around the house quickly and easily.
Is there any truth to this? Well, a 2007 Apple
patent filed to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office reveals the claim of having electronic devices or accessories clipped to the ear or patch attached to the skin with embed physiological sensors to track a user's movement.
Finally, rumors also claim that Apple will be improving the basic EarPods experience as well. It was suggested that the EarPods arriving with the iPhone 6 will have multiple
microphones to better capture outside sound for noise cancellation purposes. As of right now, Apple did not make announcement in response to these claims.
Update:
The Secret poster now says was made up "while I was using the toilet and worrying about my blood pressure." Details from
Mashable reveal the poster's intent was not to be malicious, but to use Secret for humor and give his/her friends a laugh.
