You may rethink getting Comcast after its latest blunder

Cord cutting continues to surge because of the lower costing options out there in today’s Internet and entertainment market, but Comcast may have given millions of people another strong reason to give the subscription service the proverbial Guillotine.

This is not in a good way for Comcast and the company may want to reexamine its way of handling customer calls.

If you need another solid reason to protest the proposed merger between Comcast and Time Warner Cable, this recent customer support controversy could be just the thing. The story of Ricardo and Lisa Brown should serve as a “shining” example that consumers may want to rethink either starting a new subscription or canceling their current subscription with Comcast.

Lisa Brown tried to cancel their subscription to Comcast, with the latter’s customer service representative didn’t take kindly to. It was apparent that the Browns did not receive their request to cancel Comcast’s cable service.

Comcast responded to the Browns’ request to cancel the by billing them under “A—hole Brown.”

It is apparent that the representative didn’t like taking “no” for an answer and tried to get the Browns to enter a new two-year agreement, which the couple refused. Comcast acted like a sore loser and mailed the couple monthly billing statements under “A—hole Brown.”

Rhetorically asking, did the billing department think it could get away with it?

Comcast’s official statement was that it talked with the Browns and apologized for what happened. The company plans an internal investigation on the matter and have refunded the last two years of service, but there was nothing mentioned on whether it granted the couple’s request for service cancellation.

If you don’t want Comcast to merge with TWC, you had better get in touch with your local politicians that support the deal and point out the “A—hole Brown” fiasco. This blatant act of disrespect has happened to the Browns, which means it can happen with future customers that want to cancel their Comcast service.

That is if you can get past the bullying and harassment by the customer service representatives, like the one who blatantly refused to cancel service.

On the bright side, there are viable alternatives.

Google is rolling out its Google Fiber service to select cities across the United States to test out the viability of service, but that is if you are willing to pay $120 a month. Paying that price allows you to get Internet service, TV service, and DVR service.

If you only want the Internet service, it will cost you $70 a month.

Xbox One owners will soon be able to take advantage of Dish Network’s Sling TV service for $20 a month.

Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 owners will soon be able to take advantage of Playstation Vue, which is a cloud-based TV service that has no contract requirement. The service is currently in its beta testing phase.

There is a growing number of alternatives, which will make it easier for you to cut the cord in the future.

PBS reports that Comcast submitted ghostwritten letters to politicians so they can send to the FCC stating their support for the merger with TWC.

Comcast stands in the center of a compounded issue involving net neutrality.
