4chan’s founder and administrator, Christopher Poole, has announced his resignation from the website 4chan, according to CoinBuzz.
Poole has been in charge of the 4chan for more than 11 years. His role on the website was “sole administrator, decision maker, and keeper of most of its institutional knowledge” which he is now leaving a number of volunteers in charge of. He said that the site is not in any trouble, and in fact is “as fast and stable as ever.”
He said in a post, “That foundation will now be put to the ultimate test, as today I’m retiring as 4chan’s administrator. From a user’s perspective, nothing should change. A few senior volunteers—including 4chan’s lead developer, managing moderator, and server administrator—have stepped up to ensure a smooth transition over the coming weeks.”
Poole revealed a number of statistics about 4chan, which showed that it has received over 42 billion total pageviews and over 1 billion posts since Poole started the website at the age of 15. The statistics also provided insight into the number of visitors that the website received across its 63 boards, which exceeded 20 million.
He concluded by saying that he looks forward to see what future lays ahead for 4chan, and that his “journey” as the website’s administrator was “marked by highs and lows, surprises and disappointments, but ultimately immense satisfaction”.
He will be holding a livestream video session on Friday afternoon where users can ask him questions and receive answers.
