article imageYemeni wife takes husband to court over WhatsApp addiction

By Anne Sewell     Jan 21, 2014 in Technology
Aden - Ever had the feeling that your "better half" spends more time on WhatsApp than he or she does with you? Well this Yemeni wife decided to do something about it, and took her errant husband to court.
Enough was enough for the Yemeni woman, as she explained to the court that her husband was addicted to WhatsApp and asked the judge to please force her husband to give equal time to her and the family.
Living in Aden, a port city in southern Yemen, the woman explained to the judge that her husband spends most of his days (and probably half his nights), glued to the little screen of his Smartphone, using the WhatsApp messaging service.
She said that he no longer cares for her or his family and the court must do something about this.
While there are no reports as to her success in court, it does tend to give people a bit of a wake up call. Come on people! Try and give your other half and your family more attention that you give to that little screen.
Incidentally, this is not the coldest story emanating from the Middle East in connection with the messaging service. Apparently in Madinha, Saudi Arabia, a husband sent an official divorce to his wife on WhatsApp using his Smartphone, officially ending their 10-month marriage, and this was apparently approved by the court. How's that for a technological slap in the face?
