article imageWindows 7 'back by popular demand' thanks to HP

By Tucker Cummings     Jan 21, 2014 in Technology
HP is hoping to rope in consumers with the enticement of Windows 7. For a limited time, HP is selling new computers that run Windows 7 instead of Windows 8… and offering big savings to consumers.
HP's promotion offers $150 in savings to consumers who opt for a Windows 7 PC instead of a product that runs Windows 8.
The promotion comes at an opportune time. Microsoft recently announced that they would cease with software and security updates for Windows XP this April, so it is possible that consumers looking to upgrade from their Windows XP machines to a Windows 7 machine might be drawn in by HP's deal.
HP has another good reason to promote Windows 7 over Windows 8. Despite the fact that Windows 8 is newer, Windows 7 is maintaining a faster growth rate in the marketplace. Consumers have been slow to warm to Windows 8, so HP's Windows 7 promotion isn't actually that surprising.
