Skillsoft tackles digital skills shortage with new online courses

Skillsoft said the new course will train participants to help businesses “leverage digital technology at scale.” It’s designed to provide the skills necessary for designing and implementing successful transformation strategies that improve an enterprise’s productivity and efficiency.
Understanding success
Digital transformation is one of the hottest phases in business and there’s evidence that a growing number of executives are interested in the concept. However, recent studies have that a chronic shortage of skilled experts is stifling transformation strategies and causing them to fail. Unless more digital leaders are trained up, firms may be unable to realise their digital-first visions.

The Skillsoft Digital Transformation Fundamentals series includes over 40 courses spread across seven distinct categories. These include Data Science, Digital Marketing, Virtual Collaboration and Agility for Digital Transformation, providing companies with the skills to think strategically in the digital economy. Skillsoft said the training will help enterprises to understand digital success factors and plan a roadmap for their transformation.
“As digital transformation drives the creation of new business models, there is an imperative to develop digital intelligence across all levels of organizations. Successfully navigating the shift to digital and preparing an organization’s talent base is one of the most significant challenges facing learning leaders today,” said Bill Donoghue, Chairman and CEO of the Skillsoft Group.
“Skillsoft’s new digital transformation course series is designed to help customers address this talent readiness challenge and prepare for the road ahead in industry-changing technologies such as cloud, data analytics and IoT.”
Limiting innovation
According to research conducted by Skillsoft, firms pursuing digital transformation experience 16 percent higher revenues and a 26 percent increase in profit. Just 46 percent of companies are actively investing in digital skills development though, making the remaining majority vulnerable to future market changes.
Studies into the state of digital transformation have repeatedly found skills shortages and pre-existing corporate structures are causing strategies to stagnate. In a Rackspace report in September, 71 percent of IT leaders said their firm has missed revenue opportunities owing to a lack of cloud expertise. Recruiting new staff is often a challenge as experts are being sought after across the industry, making it hard to offer competitive salaries.
Skillsoft’s new course could help to train a new generation of digital leaders, unblocking digital transformation and helping firms to resume innovation. The first courses will be offered from January 2018 on Skillsoft’s Percipio and Skillport platforms.
