article imageNew photos show the Galaxy S8 in all its colourful glory

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone could be available in a new gold colour. As the company prepares to officially unveil the device later this month, new leaked photos have revealed colour options that haven't previously been offered.
New Colours
Spotted by Android Central, a photo claiming to show all the Galaxy S8's colours was posted to Twitter today by leaker TechDroider. The unfinished frames suggest the handset will come in black, glossy black, white, silver, blue and gold. A separate image shows a gold S8 Plus next to a white regular S8.

The colours will introduce new customisation options letting you better tailor the S8 to suit yourself. The blue frame looks to be a lighter shade than Samsung's current comparable colour and gold is an entirely new option. While a gold finish won't appeal to everyone, it will make the phone even more distinctive than the regular black and white models.
Facial Recognition
Samsung is betting on the Galaxy S8 to be the market-leading Android smartphone of the year. It features the company's edge-to-edge curved display, making the screen feel wider than it is. The display is also taller than usual, adopting a similar aspect ratio to LG's G6. All of these features are shown in today's late photos.
Samsung will also introduce multiple new features with the S8-series, including facial recognition technology. It could replace the iris-scanning authentication system used on the Note 7 or be an alternative option, giving you more layers of security.
Either way, the face detection sensors are very obviously positioned at the top of the display, breaking an otherwise clean design. Consumers could be put-off by an unsightly sensor array if they don't perceive any benefit in the capabilities it enables, making face recognition's inclusion a potentially risky move for Samsung.
"Desktop Experience"
One of the other new features tipped to be included on the phone is DeX, a Microsoft Continuum-style system that'll let you use your phone with an external keyboard, mouse and monitor. By connecting the device to a specialised hub, you'll be able to run Android apps on a big screen, giving the S8 scope to be a single device to cover all use cases.

Samsung will launch the Galaxy S8 later in March, having decided against unveiling the phone during Mobile World Congress last month in a bid to recover from the Note 7 recall. Additional rumoured features include a new AI assistant dubbed "Bixby," a fingerprint sensor that's hidden beneath the glass and the use of software keys for the first time.
Despite coming with many innovative aspects, analysts are sceptical the S8 will be the must-buy phone this year. Instead, the upcoming iPhone 8 will be a "bigger draw" owing to the lack of selling points for Samsung's most significant new features.
