INFINITI LAB has released a report which details that Canadians are looking forward to the enhanced safety and cost saving benefits associated with smart city and automotive technologies.
The analysis showed that 66 percent of Canadian citizens are most concerned with the potential cost savings that could arise from the development of smart cities. The survey additionally found that 57 percent of those polled remain optimistic about the enhanced safety features that smarty city technology, especially developments associated with automotive technologies, can bring. With safety, the issue that gained the widest support was road safety, which was rated highly by 29 percent of Canadians.
The report also reveals that 50 percent of people see the potential for a lower environmental impact, which can spring from various smart city innovations, as something worthwhile. The report comes on top of the announcement of the winners of the INFINITI LAB Toronto accelerator program, which was run by the automotive brand INFINITI (the luxury vehicle division of Japanese automaker Nissan), together with Multiplicity (a not-for-profit group that supports education and engagement in the Toronto start-up community).
SmartTones: potential to connect and enhance communications
The survey comes at at the same time as nine startups pitched to INFINITI LAB at the accelerator's Toronto Demo Day. The startups included include ventures like DriveHER, ride-sharing by women for women, ShiftRide, which lets you rent your parked car and Clutch, which streamlines the purchasing process by delivering cars to your door to test drive.
The startup to win through was a new platform called SmartTones. This platform is to be taken up by the INFINITI Motor Company in Hong Kong. SmartTones is a platform which is able to accurately measure broadcast audiences in real-time. The platform can also enable advertisers and content creators to reach audiences through their mobile devices in novel ways.
According to Adam Paterson, Managing Director of INFINITI Canada SmartTones will receive further mentorship opportunities across the full business spectrum as well as the opportunity to connect with Asia’s investors. Another startup idea, Brisk Synergies, which is an automated video analytics solution designed to aid transportation authorities to analyze traffic patterns and thus avoid road safety problems, has the opportunity to enter the global program.
