As First Lady, Melania Trump would combat social media negativity

Earlier this week, Melania, 46, gave interviews to CNN‘s Anderson Cooper and Ainsley Earhardt of FOX and Friends. The wife of the Republican presidential candidate told both networks what her plans are should she become first lady of the United States. Melania wants to help combat cyberbullying and all the negativity children are exposed to on social media.

Much of the interviews were taken up with allegations of sexual impropriety that recently surfaced against her 70-year-old husband Donald. And she was asked about the Access Hollywood tape that revealed Donald making lewd comments about women. Melania said her husband is a caring man and not the man heard on the tape. She also said her husband apologized and she forgives him. Melania claimed Billy Bush egged him on to make those comments.

As to allegations her husband committed sexual assaults, Melania said people are just trying to damage Donald and his family with those accusations.

Melania also said she herself does not use social media. But she is concerned about the couple’s son Barron who is 10 years old. She referred to social media as damaging to children in the 21st century and she wants to help them overcome all the negativity on those platforms. She said children need to be taught and guided to avoid such things as cyberbullying.

Donald Trump is a prolific user of social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook. Earlier on Monday, the same day Melania appeared on CNN, Donald went on Twitter and attacked Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Paul Ryan. As well, he claimed the “dishonest media” was conspiring against him.

The irony of Melania’s views compared to Donald’s actions was not lost on the interviewers. Cooper asked Melania if she was going to try and get her husband to reduce his use of social media. Melania told him she had asked him to cut down on social media use but in the end it his decision to make. She said he’s an adult and, in the end, he is going to do what he wants to do. She added she will do what she wants to do as well. And she wants to help protect children.
