Nietes ((31-1-4, 20 KOs) is unbeaten in his last 26 fights since his lone loss to Anky Ankkota in 2004 via a split decision in Jakarta.
The 32-year-old light flyweight champion from Murcia, Negros Occidental, Philippines, will share the spotlight with fellow Filipino ex-world champion Nonito Doniare, who will face William Prado of Brazil for the NABF Super Bantamweight title.
Parra (19-2-0,17 K0s) and Nietes both tip the scale at 108 lbs.
Parra is a late substitute for Luis Ceja, a Mexican boxer with a reported questionable professional boxing record
“Ceja looked, on paper, like an interesting foe. In reality however his record was mostly padded and he shouldn’t have given Nietes too many problems. In fact in our, now never to be published, preview of that bout we had hinted that we’d expect Nietes to stop Ceja due to the Mexican’s wide shots that looked like they were made to order for Nietes to counter,” asianboxing.info writes.
Nietes did not like Parra when the came face-to-face for the weigh-in and vowed to knock the Mexican visitor out.
“Masyado kasing mayabang eh,”(He is so boastful) said Nietes who was peeved by the actuation of Parra during the weigh-in ceremonies at the Araneta Coliseum
“Pababagsakin natin ‘yan,” (We will knock him down), said Nietes. “Handang-handa ako sa kanya. Kaya natin ‘yan,” ( I am ready for him) he added.
For his part, Parra vowed to snatch Nietes’ title Saturday night and bring it home to Mexico after the fight.
