But Fury has dismissed outright Haye’s offer saying the former world champion from Bermondsey, London, “is a pretender, a fraud and he is getting no opportunities from us.”
Fury is angry because Haye turned his back on him at least twice in 2013 when they both signed to face each other in the ring, only to be left out in the dark after massive fight preparation.
Haye opted out of their 2013 scheduled fight because of an injury during training. The timing of Haye’s withdrawal (one week before the fight) particularly hurt for Fury because he invested so much time and efforts on his training.
The fight was rescheduled for early 2014 after another postponement but Haye ultimately dropped out of the fight in late 2013 due to his second injury. Haye has since recovered from his surgery but opted to go on a long layoff without officially announcing his retirement. Haye is now set to face Mark de Mori of Australia on January 16 at The O2 Arena in London, England.
“David Haye will never get a fight against Tyson Fury after what he did to me,” said Fury, who now owns Klitschko’s WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO and The Ring Heavyweight titles.
“I remember him saying that he’d never give me a payday. Well, the shoe is on the other foot now.” he added.
In reference to Fury’s quote, boxing. com”s Robert Ecksel writes: “That Fury mentioned foot in reference to Haye speaks volumes. Like Fury, Haye also fought Wladimir Klitschko. But unlike Fury, who easily beat Dr. Steelhammer, Haye mistook the meaning of toe-to-toe and limped his way to a shameful defeat.”
“I don’t care if he says I can make £10m by fighting him, it’s not about money for me,” Fury told BBC News.
“I knew how much boxers got messed about at the highest level. But there were times [when Haye pulled out of the fights] that I didn’t want to box any more,” he said.
Still, Haye remains optimistic about a possible shot at Fury if he can get past De Mori.
“If people want to come and support me on this journey to Tyson Fury then feel free,” Haye said, “because it’s going to be a fun ride.”
