Training for Vargas fight hardest to do for Manny Pacquiao

This was bared by Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Michael Koncz in a recent interview by Philboxing’s Aquiles Z. Zonio.

What makes Pacquiao’s ongoing training difficult to do is the prevailing situation where the fighting senator is preoccupied with his legislative work.

Presently, Pacquiao is almost halfway to his training for the Vargas fight and while he is not complaining, his constituents know that he is doing it in order to fulfill his promise during the campaign period that he will devote full time to his legislative work,

During his two-term as the lone representative of Sarangani Province in the House of Representatives, Pacquiao was severely criticized for being an absentee congressman.

Since the start of the 17th congress, Pacquiao has been attending senate sessions in the afternoon after doing his usual early morning exercises and in early evening he would proceed to the Elorde Gym near the senate offices to do his usual workouts and sparring sessions.

This routine is indeed difficult for Pacquiao to do as Koncz, who has been Pacquiao’s adviser for over a decade, have noticed.

“This training camp is very difficult because Manny Pacquiao has to wake up early in the morning to jog. After that, he has to go to the Senate to fulfill his legislative duties then train at the gym late in the afternoon,” Koncz bared.

Pacquiao’s tight schedule must have already taken its toll on his health as longtime trainer Freddie Roach had noticed just a few days after he planed in from the US to take over the operation of the camp. Roach is doing something about the situation by reducing the number of sparring sessions as training progresses.

Sparring sessions are very demanding and exhausting because they require the same effort and intensity of the actual fight. If a boxer isn’t in shape because of lack of preparation, he could be in danger of being injured during heavy sparring sessions. Read more:

Pacquiao is a 10-1 favorite to win over Vargas but the odds are expected to change weeks and days before the fight as Vargas had reportedly hired strength and conditioning coach Angel “Memo” Heredia, who was in Juan Manuel Marquez’ corner when he fought Pacquiao in 2012.
