As Schweinsteiger planted a kiss on his cheek, Podolski pumped his fist into the air and took the self-pointing photo with his other hand The simple text accompanying the photo reads: AHA!

Podolski’s selfie adventure didn’t end there. He found German Chancellor Angela Merkel and took a selfie with the half-smiling leader, captioned with “Selfie 2…:-)”

Germany overcame a scoreless match to notch a game-winner in extra time. The 1-0 World Cup Final win lets Germany take home the famous trophy for the fourth time – the first as a unified nation.
Germany became the first European team to win a World Cup in the Americas, as Sportsnet reports, “and the victory ends a string of near misses since winning its last major title at the 1996 European Championship.”
