article imageTennis player tells fan to 'Shut Up' during match at U.S. Open

By Mandy Robinson     Aug 29, 2014 in Sports
Stan Wawrinka from Australia made a big mistake during the U.S. Open as he told a fan to "shut up." He laughed it off after all went down though.
It was during a tough spot in the match and Stan needed to concentrate. Without even thinking, he told a fan to "shut up." Lucky for him the fans were not upset. After the match, he spoke out in a press conference and said, "At the end of the day, they start to get a little bit drunk. It was OK. I had to talk to a few of them. At the end, it's normal. ... Everybody was into the match. That's OK. It can happen."
It was very obvious that the fan was bothering him when it went down. He looked right at the person and said, "Shut up, man! Seriously, shut up." You can see that he is wanting to get their attention. It was right before he was about to serve the ball so there was no chance of it messing up his game.
As you can see on the video, at first the crowd started to cheer and then they moved on to booing him. It is hard to tell if they liked that he did it or not, but it worked out okay in the end. Stan Wawrinka will probably think twice before he says that to a fan in the future though. He was able to laugh about it in his post-game interviews.
Fox Sports shared that Stan Wawrinka did get the win that he needed with this match. He beat out Thomaz Bellucci in the second round which means he made it to round three of the U.S. Open. This match started on Wednesday but didn't come to an end until Thursday. Next he will be up against laz Kavcic of Slovenia.
