article image‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin backs gay marriage

By Mathew Wace Peck     Apr 26, 2014 in Sports
Sportsman “Stone Cold” Steve Austin — the world’s most bankable wrestler in the history of the sport — has given his public support for same-sex marriage.
In doing so, Austin has questioned, in rather forthright terms, the right of the church to decide on who is or is not allowed to wed.
“There has been a lot of f***ing stuff in the news lately about same-sex marriage. Everybody’s going crazy about this and some of the churches say, ‘Oh, no can do, you can’t do that,’” he said in a recent podcast.
Explaining further, Gay Star News reports the 49-year-old as adding, “I’m for same-sex marriage. I don’t give a shit if two guys, two gals, a guy-gay, whatever it is … I believe that any human being in America, any human being in the goddamned world, that wants to be married [should be able to] and if it’s the same-sex more power to them.”
During his professional wrestling career, Steve Austin has held 21 championships, and been cited as the most profitable wrestler in the history of the WWF (World Wresting Federation) league.
During his podcast, he specifically aimed his ire at the religious-led opposition to the moves towards gay people being given the right to marry. Austin said, “What also chaffs my ass … is that one of these churches, or some of these churches, have the high horse that they get on and say, ‘We as a church do not believe in that.’”
He then asks, “Which one of these motherf***ers talked to God and God said same-sex marriage was a no-can-do?”
Continuing his critique of organised religious bodies, the wrestler then highlighted what many others have said before him — the inconsistency inherent in adopted religious doctrines and that, often, those adhering to them demonstrate more about hate than love to their fellow human beings.
Specifically attacking the Christian doctrine of “forgiveness,” Austin asked the simple question of how churches could disapprove of gay people “… but then a guy can go murder 14 people, molest five kids, then go to f***ing prison, then accept God and he’s going to let him into heaven after the fact that he did all that s**t? That’s all horses**t to me, that don’t jive with me ... I have some damned good friends who are gay and I’m absolutely for same-sex marriage.”
