Minneapolis - Twitter has erupted with reports star NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been indicted by a grand jury in Texas for "reckless or negligent injury to a child."
Though details surrounding the indictment are still emerging, the incident may become the first piece of tarnish on the otherwise sterling career of the longtime Minnesota Viking.
According to several sources including ESPN, Yahoo Sports and NBC News, the sheriffs department of Montgomery County, Texas has been investigating Peterson for some time in relation to an incident last May when he supposedly disciplined his "son with a switch."
Despite the indictment, Peterson has not been arrested by authorities at any time in relation to the investigation and the 29 year-old appeared at Vikings practice on Friday according to Minneapolis Star-Tribune beat writer, Matt Vensel.
In the wake of this week's Ray Rice mayhem, both the NFL and the Minnesota Vikings are treading lightly around the situation, with the team stating it's "in the process of gathering information about Peterson's legal situation."
Though no official warrant for Peterson's arrest will be issued, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer Tweeted the star RB would need to turn himself in to authorities.
As such, the Vikings with have to go into Sunday's match-up against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots without their star running back — Peterson has been deactivated for the game.
