There were no knockdowns in the 12-round flyweight championship contest but it was almost a one-sided fight as Gonzalez dominated the fight from the opening round.
With the win, Gonzalez is now unbeaten in 45 fights since turning pro in 2005. Popularly known as “Chocolatito,” Gonzalez has solidified his hold as the Ring’s pound-for-pound best fighter.
Gonzalez is coming off a ninth-round TKO win against Brian Viloria last October at the Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York to retain his WBC, Lineal & The Ring Flyweight titles.
The 28-year-old fighter from Managua, Nicaragua, is the reigning Ring’s pound-for-pound king and the current WBC flyweight champion.
“It was a very difficult fight,” Gonzalez said. “Arroyo moves very well. He knows how to avoid the punches. I wanted to fight him, I wanted to roll him and catch him with counter punches, but it was difficult because he moved quite a bit.”
“My conditioning was fantastic,” Gonzalez said. “Training in Costa Rica made all the difference in the world. I think maybe one more fight at 112 and then I move up to 115. I want to fight the best possible opponent,” he added.
Two judges had an identical score at 119-109, 119-109 while the third judge had it at 120-108.
It was Arroyo’s third loss in 19 outings since turning pro in 2010.
