Roach to start training Pacquiao on Valentine’s Day in Phl

Roach will be joining Assistant Trainer Buboy Fernandez, who is now working on Pacquiao’s light training in General Santos City.

“I’m going to leave for the Pacquiao camp on February 12th and I get there on the 14th. We’ll start training that day,”said Roach earlier this week from his Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California.

Roach isn’t sure how long he will stay in the camp this time because of Pacquiao’s schedules in the upcoming national elections in the Philippines where he is a senatorial candidate.

Usually Roach spends two to three weeks in the Philippines but if he would be required to stay longer, he said he would dispatch some sparring partners to the camp for early sessions.

Earlier last week, Fernandez said he will start Pacquiao working on the mitts Thursday after a basketball dribbling session and jogging under the early morning rain.

“Mitts session would start Thursday afternoon because the boxing ring at the Wild Card Gym underwent renovation and repainting. Anyway, we’re ahead of schedule so no need to rush,” Fernandez said.

Roach has said earlier he expects Pacquiao to score a knockout win over Bradley on April 9.

Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz writes: “Roach indicated that since it will be Pacquiao’s farewell fight before he hangs up his gloves, he wants him to “go out with a bang and Manny wants to knock Tim (Bradley), out so I predict a knockout in nine.”
