article imageRoach confident Pacquiao will knock out Mayweather on May 2

Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao have only one goal in common as they put together a game plan for the Mayweather fight on May 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada..
Pacquiao, who is set to start his sparring session next week, said he is 100% sure of winning against Floyd Mayweather while Roach said he wants Pacquiao to win by knockout in the late rounds.
While Pacquiao may be happy with just a split decision victory, Roach is pushing him to go for a knock out win. The seven-time "Trainer of the Year" knows well that only a knockout can assure Pacquiao with a win.because of a public perception that the judges will favor Mayweather if the scoring is close.
"What I want Manny to do — to make sure we're both on the same page," Roach said. "A lot of times, you show a guy something he's not comfortable with, they'll try it just to please you, but they won't ever do it in a fight. Manny and I have a friendship where he'll tell me if he will try it, or we'll just throw it out," he added.
Roach noted that Pacquiao does't really like Mayweather unlike his other past opponents who became friends long after the fight is over.
"We do have a good game plan going down; I do think he will knock this guy out. Because again, he's really motivated and again I don't think he likes this guy and this is the first time in my life I've really come across that," Roach said.
A good indicator that Pacquiao is really motivated to score a KO win is the same feeling that he got when he dominated Marco Antonio Barrera more than 10 years ago similar to what he felt when he fought Oscar de la Hoya and Miguel Cotto soon after.
Pacquiao said he savored the tag of being an underdog as it keeps him challenged and motivated.
"It's a good thing to be an underdog," Pacquiao said. "It helps me a lot. You're more focused on training. I feel like I'm at the start again. I've always been an underdog."
Roach appears so confident that Pacquiao will go for a KO win based on the game plan that they both hatched as they go about their secret strategy for the Mayweather fight.
"He's going to be in trouble," Roach said of Mayweather. "He'll fall right into our power and he'll get knocked out," Roach said.
Roach has been protective of his secret plan and for that reason, he plans to keep his Wild Card Gym off limit to outsiders during sparring sessions.
