Greek athlete Maria Belibasaki has a reason to be proud. She won the silver medal for Greece in the women's 400 meter final at the European Championships.
The 2018 European Championships were held at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, Germany. The women's 400 meter final, in particular, took place on August 11.
A 27-year-old Greek sprinter, Belibasaki came in second place with 50.45 seconds, claiming the silver medal and a new national record for Greece. Justyna Swiety-Ersetic of Poland came in first place with 50.41 seconds, a European lead. Lisanne de Witte of The Netherlands finished in third place with bronze, with 50.77 seconds, which was a national record for The Netherlands.
Belibasaki's win in the women's 400 meters marked the second silver medal for Greece in the European Athletics Championships. Greece also won a silver in the women's pole vault thanks to Nikoleta Kiriakopoulou, as well as three gold medals in the men's long jump (Miltiadis "Miltos" Tentoglou), women's pole vault (Katerina Stefanidi) and the women's triple jump (Paraskevi Papachristou).
