article imageTMZ says Floyd Mayweather - Manny Pacquiao deal done, fight May 2

It has been some five years in the making but boxing fans will just be happy it is here: a contract between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather has been negotiated. TMZ Sports said a source told them the two sides came to an agreement Friday afternoon.

They will fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 2, the date that Digital Journal reported they would meet on. According to the TMZ source, a few final touches are being put on the contract but every important issue such as date, venue, method of drug-testing, broadcasting details and money split has been signed off on.
Latest reports are that the split will be 60-40 in favor of Mayweather, but some pundits do not feel Top Rank's Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter, would settle for 40 percent. Mayweather does command more Pay Per View buys but this fight will be the richest in boxing history because of the stature of both men. Until confirmation of the 60-40 split is announced, those figures are suspect.
There's no word as yet on how the fight will be broadcast. Mayweather is signed to Showtime, Pacquiao to HBO. It's likely the two broadcasters have found a way to jointly show the fight.
Boxers meet at Miami Heat game
The negotiations went through a lull as Arum and Pacquiao each proclaimed they'd signed the contract but that Mayweather had not, a charge Mayweather denied.
What seems to have turned the tide was the two fighters attending the same NBA game in Miami Tuesday — whether it was orchestrated we can't say — and at halftime Mayweather made his way over to Pacquiao. Exchanging cell numbers they met later that night in Pacquiao's hotel room for more than an hour of face-to-face talks. It was the first time they'd met.
Michael Koncz, a Pacquiao adviser, was the only other person in the room and he said their talk was productive and that two major issues related to broadcasting were addressed. He told media Wednesday he was confident the fight would happen and an announcement would be forthcoming. It appears he was right..
Mayweather, 37, has never been beaten and has a record of 47-0, while Pacquiao, 36, Boxer of the Decade for the last decade, is 57-5-2 and an eight-division champ. Considered the two best pound for pound fighters in boxing, fans have wanted the two to hook up for years and they almost did in 2010; however, disagreements over the method of drug testing got in the way.
Already the betting line has Mayweather the favorite at 3-1.
