Record Pay Per View price for Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao

That figure, in U.S. funds, is actually lower than what was speculated would be the price when the fight was first announced in March. There was talk that the cost of bringing PPV into your living-room would be over $100.

In actuality, for most buyers the price will hit that $100 figure. That is because the cable providers will be charging an extra $10 in the form of a surcharge for providing high-definition.

The price of buying a seat in the Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena to witness the bout in person is between $8,000 to $10,000, so the PPV price seems miniscule in comparison. Despite those numbers, there are only a limited amount of tickets left.

Mayweather and Pacquiao are expected to eclipse the record for both PPV buys and money generated. The current earnings record came in 2013 when Mayweather beat Mexican boxer Saul El Canelo Alvarez in a split decision. The fight made over $150 million from over 2.2 million Pay Per Views.

The most PPV buys generated came from the 2007 Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya fight, which generated 2.48 million buys. The Mayweather vs. Canelo card had the highest price for buying PPV at $74.95.

The promoters of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao expect to eclipse many records for boxing matches, and not only PPV records. The gross, for example, is expected to be as high as $400 million or more, well beyond the kind of money any other fight in history has generated.

The two step into the ring together on May 2.
