article imageProvodnikov bounces back, stops Castillo in round 5

Former Manny Pacquiao's sparring partner Ruslan Provodnikov has bounced back pretty quickly after his loss to Chris Algieri by knocking out veteran Mexican fighter Jose Luis Castilllo in the fifth round of their encounter Saturday in Russia.
Provodnikov started early in the round as the aggressor, landing from all angles but Castillo fought back with his own combinations.
In the second round, the rugged Russian fighter (also known as the "Siberian Rocky), continued his early relentless assault but the aging Mexican managed to survive and fought his way away until the third round.
In the fourth round Castillo surprisingly went toe-to-toe with Provodnikov and got caught with a series of power punches that gave the Siberian Rocky a signal to go for the kill.
In the fifth round, Provodnikov caught Castillio with a solid left that rocked the Mexican followed by a series of left and right combinations that sent Castillo to the canvas for a knockdown.
Provodnikov wasted no time in throwing power punches after the first knockdown as Castillo took a knee and was counted out by the referee.
With the win, Provodnikov can look forward to another title fight or a possible rematch with his former tormentor Chris Algieri, who beat him on points despite the two early knockdowns he scored over the former unbeaten American during their title fight last June.
Castillo has fought elite fighters including Floyd Mayweather, Ricky Hatton, Diego Corrales, Joel Casamayor and Julio Diaz, among others during his prime but his long years in the ring has taken its toll on his aging body.
Provodnikov's KO win brings his career record up to 27-3-0 while Castillo, who lost to Floyd Mayweather by unanimous decision in 2002, dropped to 77-12-1
