PGA Tour Playoffs: Tight leader-board heading into final round

With three rounds now in the books, Ricky Fowler has a slim one shot lead over Patrick Reed and a two shot lead over Australian Adam Scott.

The Barclay’s is the first step towards winning $10 million as the top player in the Fed Ex Cup after the Tour Championship. Last years winner, Jason Day is in the hunt to make it back-to-back championships as he sits in sixth position, four shots behind the leader and tops of the point rankings heading into this weekend.

Fowler began the week ranked 28th overall, but a victory on Sunday would catapult the Californian to first overall and bump Day to second. The 27-year-old has played remarkably well on such a tough layout, making just one bogey through three rounds and sitting at -9 under par.

The former Oklahoma State star is also the only player in the field with all three rounds below 70. His three-under Saturday round wasn’t spectacular, but it was steady as he birdied both par 5’s on the front side and finished his day wit a birdie on the eighteenth green.

Reed began play in front at -8, but had a roller coaster front nine with three birdies and three bogey’s. His back nine play was more consistent with all pars. If he holds his current position, the 26-year-old would move to fifth overall in the Fed Ex Cup and put himself in great position to make a run at the top when the field of 100 moves on to the Deutsche Bank Championship, played at the TPC of Boston.

Scott made the biggest move on Saturday with a stellar 65, the lowest round of the event and in contention for the $1.5 million winners check, but on a tough layout like this, anything can happen on Sunday and it makes for great viewing and terrific ratings for the PGA Tour as the season moves one-step closer to its finish.
