article imagePGA Tour News: Should Tiger Woods call it quits after 2015 season?

By Larry Seely     Jul 17, 2015 in Sports
It's never easy to see a former great athlete in the twilight of their career, and when it comes to a 39-year-old golfer, it's even harder to watch, but that's just what's happening with Tiger Woods.
Injuries and off course issues have hindered his career over the last five years and the man once known as the greatest golfer on the planet has become a shell of his former self. Despite still ranking in the top-10 in earnings for all athletes, his golf game has become a laughing stock to the PGA Tour.
Tiger was once considered a lock to surpass the great Jack Nicklaus in Majors, but since life hit the former star in the face, he hasn't managed to win another big tournament and often looks like a journeymen professional and not the player that all other golfers feared.
We still see glimpses of the past, but they have become few and far between and the only thing keeping the man in the spotlight is his pride. Tiger Woods was known for not giving up, but his lack of consistency and injuries caused from a violent action in his swing have many now wondering if giving up the game is now his best option.
Art Spander of Bleacher Report has followed the PGA Tour for decades and his writing has earned the longtime columnist a Lifetime Achievement Award. Spander has reported that the once great golfer has no more miracles left in the bag after his disappointing opening round at the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews.
Other writers have jumped on board and after a rocky relationship with writers in the past, Tiger Woods has few people to lend support during these lean times. While no word of retirement has been mentioned, just like athletes from other sports, the writing is clearly on the wall and the best thing for the man and the game of golf could be to call it quits and move forward with the rest of his life, no matter where that may take him.
