The was revealed by Pacquiao’s longtime trainer Freddie Roach during a media workout for the upcoming Miguel Cotto-Daniel Geale fight on June 6.
Roach is training Cotto at his Wild Card Gym in Hollywood for possible third straight win since losing to Austin Trout in 2012.
Roach believes Pacquiao won the fight despite his shoulder injury. Pacquiao has also claimed he was slightly ahead of Mayweather after reviewing the video of the fight.
“Hindi ako nagko-complain sa desisyon ng mga judges,” (I am not complaining about the decision of the judges) Pacquiao noted in his interview with GMA News’ Jessica Soho two weeks after the fight, but added, “Nung ni-review ko, panalo ako ng two points.” (When I reviewed the video, I won by two points).
Pacquiao said ‘he felt he won seven rounds against Mayweather’s five.’
For his part, Roach said he still has to re-watch the video for better appreciation of the result of the fight.
“Most of the fans in the arena told me we got robbed,” claims the Hall of Fame trainer.
“And at the airport, 99% of the people told me ‘we won the fight’. But I haven’t re-watched the fight yet, so I can’t tell you what I think about it.”
“But after the fight, I thought it could have gone either way.”
Roach said that while it may be true that Pacquiao complained of a shoulder injury three weeks before the fight, he believes that it won’t hinder Pacquiao’s performance during the fight.
It was during the fourth round that Pacquiao got re-injured which led to his slowdown in the later rounds, Roach explained.
