article imagePacquiao considers Algieri the most dangerous foe of his career

By Leo Reyes     Oct 28, 2014 in Sports
WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is training doubly hard for his upcoming fight knowing that his next opponent, unbeaten American Chris Algieri, is the most dangerous fighter of his career
In his ESPN blog, Pacquiao responded to a question about the difficulty he has experienced while training to address the awkward fighting style of Algieri.
"Chris Algieri poses many puzzles for me to solve. In terms of his height and reach, only Antonio Margarito surpasses him in the scope of opponents I have faced," Pacquiao said.
"Algieri is also the most scientific, fluid and fittest fighter I have ever opposed. All of those factors, plus he is five years younger than me, make him the most dangerous opponent of my career," he added.
Referring to Algieri's superior height and reach, Pacquiao recalled that Margarito, whom he fought in 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington,Texas, had a longer reach and is taller than Algieri.
In the Margarito fight, a 150-pound catch weight was set and during the weigh-in, Pacquiao weighed 150 pounds. But during the fight, the eight-division champ weighed 148 against Margarito's weight of 165 pounds.
On Nov. 22, Pacquiao will be facing Algieri at 144 pounds which is six pounds lower than the contracted weight for the Margarito fight.
“Weight has never been an issue for Manny, but to have him make weight four weeks in advance of a fight is incredible, even for him,” said Roach of Pacquiao, who weighed 143 after Friday’s open media workout before media members in General Santos City, Philippines.
Pacquiao has downplayed reports that he is taking Algieri lightly saying he is training as hard as he can for the fight at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort & Casino in Macau, China.
