article imageOzil donates World Cup winnings to help 'Brazilian kids'

By Walter McDaniel     Jul 17, 2014 in Sports
Mesut Ozil decided to donate a decent chunk of his World Cup winnings to operations for 23 children in Brazil. Reports say the midfielder for Germany spent all of his winnings but have conflicting views on where the total sum ended up.
While it is clear that the money went to those who needed it many voices in the media have conflicting reports on where it went. Ozil himself denies that he gave any money to the Gaza strip but confirms that some of it went to the Brazilian children.
Ozil has often been involved with the lighter side of sports when he hugged his former coach Jose Mourinho and give him his shirt. The two talk with each other to this day despite having "completely disconnected" on actual team terms.
As for soccer starts in general their donations are mixed, as you might expect. Niche media has called on individuals to contribute more. At the same time many of the largest names in sports, such as Beckham and Woods, donate regularly to a variety of important charities.
